The frailty of life

A more serious note…

So, I recently found out that one of my acquaintance’s brother committed suicide. It was a large shock; even though I didn’t know him personally, we had many mutual friends.

This tragic, horrendous occurrence made me think about many people out there that are fighting a daily battle in their head against depression, and against evil lies that the devil is whispering into their brain. It also made me think about the frailty of life and how easy it is to be living one day and gone the next.

Many of us may know, or know of someone who has suffered from depression. According to the World Heath Organization, depression is the second killer, after heart disease. Australia especially, is known to have extremely high rates of this mental condition.

We should be aware of this fact, and be extra alert to people we know that might be facing this problem. I have always known that depression is a serious issue, and rife in Australia. But it wasn’t until this event that I now realize how destructive this disease of the mind  can be.

The battle of the mind is very enigmatic – no one can know what’s going on except yourself. Only Jesus can know, and that is why it is so important to stay close to him, and to introduce him to your loved ones. He can show you that there is a way out of the darkness you, or your loved one may be trapped in. He after all, is The Way, The Truth, and The Life.

My Korean Lunch

So, today at work I had a large craving for Korean Bibimbap. My work is in North Melbourne, which is in the middle of nowhere in terms of food unless you drive out. Which is kind of annoying a lot of the time because I am a very hungry person, and I love Asian food.

Anyway, so I emailed my Italian friend Rob who sits on the other side of the office, and we decided to go find some Korean food for lunch. He took me to this awesome place just off the corner of Victoria St and Exhibition St, which sits in this little alley-way and is very authentic and quaint. I felt like I was on the streets of Asia, as it was boiling hot, noisy, and stuffed with Asian people speaking Asian!

At first Rob wanted to order 1 Bibimbap and 1 Lamb Bulgogi, but me being a piggy as usual insisted on 2 Bibimbaps (have to have one each, right?). The dishes came out with 4 dishes of condiments – which I love. The Bibimbap was done well – it is hard to find a Korean place that does it well; but I really liked the way they cooked this one, it had lots of asian mushrooms which I love, and a good amount of chilli and cucumber.

It was absolutely delicious, but by the end of the meal we were sweating buckets (gross!!) and had a heap of food left over still.

Sitting here, absolutely stuffed to the brim at my desk, I guess the moral of the story should be t0 not be greedy and order too much..but that is a lesson I know I’ll never learn :p
